Baltimore's first B'More Healthy Expo

SleepPhones had a booth at the B'More Healthy Expo this past weekend. We screened people for Excessive Daytime Sleepiness using the Epworth Sleepiness Scale. And we also demonstrated how SleepPhones can help with sleeping problems.

Montel Williams was there, and he told us his story about being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) and how he lives with this chronic disease. He eats many fruits and vegetable every day, in a juice. And he uses his mind to block the pain from his feet, legs, and right side of the face. He was told he would be in a wheelchair 7 years ago, but he continues to function quite well, walking around during the entire speech. I did notice that he had a limp because his right leg was stiff. He had us do some interesting experiments with our mind to show just how much the mind can control the body. I really enjoyed his speech.

Dr. Puff Enjoys Wearing SleepPhones for Meditation!

Our new affiliate Dr. Robert Puff makes a great meditation podcast. We are sponsoring his episodes and hope that the podcasts will become more popular. He also produces a TV show called the Holistic Success Show, which will be part of the Fit.tv network soon! His partner is Elizabeth Lozano.

Dr. Puff likes to listen to meditations before going to bed, and he loves his SleepPhones for that purpose, just in case he falls asleep.

Polysomnography in a Sleep Study

Our friend Nicole in St. Petersburg, Florida is studying to be a polysomnographer, someone who supervises patients getting a sleep study. Since the obesity rate is rising, the rate of sleep apnea is also rising. Plus, the increasing stress in society today is causing more and more sleep problems. So more people need to have sleep studies done. She would probably be working overnight, watching the patients sleep and making sure everything goes alright. For example, if a lead became loose, she would have to replace it. Or if the the oxygen tracings were extremely and dangerously low for a sleep apnea patient, then she may have to end the study early. We caught up with each other at the Sleep Health and Safety Conference in early March and had a great time.

Anyway, as part of the training program, she has to try out the equipment herself! Here she is wearing all of the gear and her SleepPhones on top. Hmmm... probably not the best marketing photo.

Affiliates System for SleepPhones

We finally have the affiliate system working. We had to make changes in our website, Drupal installation, DreamHost, Yahoo website, Google Checkout, and probably a few more places so that everything talks to each other correctly. Incremental changes of trial and error got the system to recognize new orders, talk with Google Checkout, and calculate a commission. Whew! But now the problem is that everyone who places an order is automatically given a user name. They can't do much with a user name, but it definitely clogs up our system to keep track of affiliates. So now we need to debug that. Then we'll wipe the slate clean and run one more test. Hopefully we'll have everything ready by Monday night. On Tuesday, I'll send out invitations to people who have asked to be affiliates. Affiliates have been a long time coming, but the end is in sight.
